The
founder
of the company was the German Adolf Dassler, who was born on November
3, 1900
in Herzogenaurach. Dassler was very interested in sports and in 1920 he
built
his first workshop in his mother’s laundry room.
In 1924, along with his
brother he established his first factory. It had 12 employees and was
called Dassler
Brothers Shoe Factory. Here they produced 200,000 pairs of shoes up
until World
War II. The first success was the demonstration of shoes at the Olympic
Games
in Amsterdam in 1928. At the Olympic Games in Berlin (1936), athletes
won many
medals while wearing Adidas shoes.
In 1948 the brothers had a conflict and
split the company. Adi kept Adidas and Rudi founded the Puma brand.
